RESEARCH PROJECTS
Trans-Forming the Narrative. This is a qualitative study that examines the positive and negative experiences of transgender and gender nonconforming people online and their perceptions of their health and wellbeing. I designed the study and protocol. I acquired IRB approval and currently manage a team of undergraduate research assistance to transcribe the interviews. I organized access to research subjects and conducted the interviews. I will lead a group of undergrads in creating a coding system, coding the interviews and photos, and entering the data. I will analyze and write results, present findings, and prepare any manuscripts for publication.
LGB+ Students’ School Climate and Experiences of Discrimination. This study uses path analyses to examine marginalized students’ perceptions of school climate as it relates to their identities and experiences of discrimination from teachers and peers. We examined the effect of sexual orientation, gender, race, grade, experience of discrimination from peers and experience of discrimination from teachers on perceptions of school climate. I conducted analyses on the data set, wrote up results, and prepared the manuscript for publication.
Gender Exclusion in STEM. This study uses multigroup structural equation modeling to examine expected bystander behavior when men and women are excluded from Physics classes. We examined the effect of gender, equitable attitudes, and acceptability on bystander intervention. I conducted analyses on the data set, wrote up results, and prepared the manuscript for publication.
Young Adults' Evaluation of Gender-Based Cyberbullying. This study evaluated gender-based cyberbullying, theory of mind, and emotional intelligence, with a focus on understandings of bystander behavior within the context of transgressor gender and status. I designed the study and protocol, acquired IRB approval, organized access to research subjects and collect data using a survey protocol. I managed a team of undergraduate research assistants to transcribe, code and enter the data, and I prepared the manuscript for publication.
How does it hurt? This study examines the implications of social relationships on health outcomes related to experiences of bias-based bullying. I am conducting multi-level modeling analyses on an existing dataset, the Health Behavior in School Aged Children (HBSC) 2009 – 2010 survey (Iannotti, 2013). I am analyzing data and writing up results, and I will prepare the research for publication.
Adolescents’ peer evaluation of social transgressions. This study evaluates gender-based humor and emotional intelligence, with a focus on understandings of bystander behavior within the context of intergroup relations. I designed the study and protocol and acquired IRB approval. I will manage a team of undergraduate research assistants, organize access to research subjects in schools, collect data using a survey protocol, transcribe, code and enter the data, analyze and write results and maintain records and communication between all members of the research team.
Digital Era Bullying: An Examination of Adolescent Judgments about Bystander Intervention. This study evaluated moral judgments related to cyberbullying within the context of bystander behavior and experiences of discrimination. I conducted analyses, wrote up results, and submitted the manuscript to be published.
The Role of Theory of Mind, Group Membership, and Apology in Youth Intergroup Forgiveness. This project evaluated intergroup forgiveness and theory of mind. I helped manage a team of five research assistants, organize access to research subjects at museums, collect data using a survey protocol and interviews, code and enter the data, analyze and write results and maintain records and communications between all members of the research team.
Examining Victimization across Different Types of Transgressors. This project examined how young children perceive transgressors based on different characteristics. I designed the study, created all of the stimulus using Adobe Photoshop, collected the data, conducted all of the interviews, and analyzed preliminary findings (Undergraduate work).
